Most Frequently Asked Questions About EnSharpen

Operating System and System Requirements

  1. Will EnSharpen work on Mac OS 9/OS X?

Yes, EnSharpen will run on both OS 9 and OS X. It is also available for the Intel-based Macs, and Windows.

  2. Will EnSharpen work with my video creation and video editing software?

EnSharpen is a standard QuickTime codec, so it will work with any product based on the QuickTime architecture. This means it will work with anything that exports to QuickTime files.

  3. What versions of QuickTime are supported?

QuickTime versions 5.0.5 and later are supported.

Installation Issues

  1. I've downloaded the EnSharpen codec. How do I install it?

Depending on which OS you're using, you should have downloaded either a .dmg (Mac OS X), .hqx (Mac OS 9) or an .exe (Windows) file. If you're running Mac OS 9, you should extract the .hqx file with StuffIt and then run the installer located in the newly extracted "EnSharpen OS 9 Installer" folder.  If you are running Mac OS X, simply launch the .dmg file which will mount a drive image on your desktop.  Then open that drive and run the installer ".pkg" file.  If you're running Windows, you should just be able to run the .exe file to install EnSharpen on your system.

  2. I ran the installer and then could not find the codec to run it. Where is it?

EnSharpen is not a standalone application. It works within your current video editor or content creation application. When you are ready to produce your movie, select TechSmith EnSharpen from your list of available QuickTime codec options.

Software Key Problems

  1. I purchased a software key. How do I enter it?

Run the EnSharpen installation file. You will be prompted for the key. If you do not have the install file, download it now.

EnSharpen Compression Questions

  1. I compressed my video file using EnSharpen, but the file size increased. What happened?

You probably used EnSharpen on a video file that is already compressed. Use EnSharpen to compress your original, uncompressed video footage.

EnSharpen Usage Questions

  1. Can I use EnSharpen with Camtasia Studio's Recorder?

Since EnSharpen is a QuickTime codec creating MOV files and Recorder creates AVI files, you can not.  However, if you have purchased Camtasia Studio 2 or later versions, the EnSharpen Video Codec comes with Camtasia Studio and can be used to compress your videos at production time when creating MOV output.

For earlier versions of Camtasia, you can purchase EnSharpen separately, or upgrade to the latest version of Camtasia Studio to use the EnSharpen Video Codec.

  2. I've installed the EnSharpen codec. How do I use it?

If you have Camtasia Studio installed, EnSharpen will be available as a codec option when producing an MOV file and modifying your codec under the "Video Setup..." button.  If you are using some other application, EnSharpen should show up as an available QuickTime video codec when producing an MOV file.  Consult your application's documentation on where to adjust these options.
